Nursery Assistant
Charlie Smith is a reliable environmentalist with a passion for restoring and enhancing Houston’s ecosystems. In his role as Plant Nursery Assistant, he supports the production, watering, and management of plants before they are established at Houston Parks Board sites. Charlie brings confidence and attentiveness to every project, ensuring that the plants and spaces he works with are carefully nurtured. His conservation journey began with the Texas Conservation Corps, where he gained hands-on experience in trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and invasive species removal. He also volunteers with local parks, contributing to general maintenance and the preservation of public lands.
One of his most meaningful experiences was with his TXCC crew in Davy Crockett National Forest, where he spent long days hiking to replace trail markers across miles of woodland. These efforts deepened his connection to nature and solidified his commitment to protecting public landscapes. Charlie earned his GED from Houston Community College in February of last year and continues to grow his expertise through direct conservation work. In his free time, Charlie enjoys hiking, photography, and exploring Hermann Park.
