On July 24, 2018, Houston Parks Board—along with Houston Parks and Recreation Department, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Harris County Precinct One, and Harris County Flood Control District—celebrated the opening of a new 1-mile segment of Hunting Bayou Greenway. The new segment is from Falls Street to Pickfair Street. Along this new trail is a new pocket park at the intersection of Pardee and Leffingwell, which serves as a gateway to the Kashmere Gardens neighborhood. Houston Parks Board thanks TxDOT for funding this project.
In July 2019, construction finished on a new portion of Hunting Bayou Greenway from Falls Street to Cavalcade Street (Mickey Leland Memorial Park). At a half-mile long, the greenway connect into the trail that leads to Pickfair Street. It included the replacement of the existing asphalt trail with a new 10-foot wide concrete trail as well as a new hike-and-bike pedestrian bridge.
A future phase of the Hunting Bayou Greenway will pick up at Pickfair Street and continue through Hutcheson Park to a future Kelly Street Bikeway.

In April 2020, Houston Parks Board began construction on a new segment of Hunting Bayou Greenway from Manitou Drive to Maxey Road.
Notable new features of the Hunting Bayou Greenway include neighborhood trail connections to Manitou Drive, Saltillo Street/Mesa Drive, San Pedro Street, Lafferty OaksStreet/Autumnwood Drive, Coolwood Drive. Once complete, the trail system will link into Herman Brown Park as well as Greens Bayou Greenway, a trail Houston Parks Board recently built from Strickland Park to Maxey Park.
The 10-foot wide concrete trail has directional signage, trash cans, recycling bins, seating areas and a unique gateway featuring a Woodpecker.
This work has begun in the El Dorado Neighborhood and will continue to other neighborhoods along this bayou. As construction is beginning in other neighborhoods, Houston Parks Board will be reaching out to notify those neighborhoods. Construction work, overall, is estimated to conclude in nine months.
