This 23-acre neighborhood park on the Eastern periphery of Greater Heights is vital to the Brooke Smith neighborhood, the last remaining historic Hispanic community in the Greater Heights.

The Montie Beach Civic Club is committed to ensuring that this park represents the communities it serves and is sustained as a destination for visitors from surrounding communities. The Montie Beach Civic Club raised funds for a master plan for the park’s development.

For the master plan, Houston Parks Board is serving as the project manager and Asakura Robinson is serving as the Landscape Architecture firm.

MASTER PLAN PROCESS

The first step of the master planning effort is to identify, evaluate and consider the park’s current facilities, conditions, natural qualities, constraints, and opportunities. Outreach to stakeholders and community members is a critical component of the master plan process.

Over the course of six months, from April 2022 to September 2023, the design team and Montie Beach Civic Club hosted an open house and community meeting. A bilingual outreach approach helped bridge communication barriers, which resulted in input from a diverse range of park visitors.
